Small Streams
Just like old times...Your goal was always the same as mine
You didn't want to throw a fishing line in
that old main stream. -Todd Snider
Small stream fishing opportunities abound in the Island Park area. The Buffalo, Warm River, Fall River, Targhee Creek, and Robinson Creek are just a few. These small streams are fun to fish and provide the seasoned angler a chance to get away from it all and relive the fishing of their youth. At the same time the novice may practice their newly acquired skills on fish that are far more cooperative than their Henry's Fork cousins. The fish in these small streams are usually no larger than 12 inches, but what they lack in size they make up for in numbers and beauty. This does not mean there are not larger fish to be found in these small environs. Every year stories about 16+ inch trout being caught in these smaller streams create just as much buzz in the fly shop as any 20+ inch fish from the main river. Small streams also offer the observant angler great wildlife viewing. Seldom does a day go by that one does not spot moose, deer, otters, beaver, a stunning variety of bird life, and possibly even a bear or wolf.
