Jake Messinger is a fourth-generation fly fisherman from southeastern Idaho with over 30 years of experience on the water. Fly fishing runs deep in his blood, passed down through generations who called these rivers home. From a young age, Jake spent his days exploring waters like the Snake and its tributaries, developing a lifelong passion for fly fishing—especially the technical challenges and rewards of dry fly presentation.
Now guiding with TroutHunter on the legendary Henry’s Fork, Jake is dedicated to helping guests make the most of their time on the river—whether it’s a first cast or a return trip to a favorite stretch. He’s patient, knowledgeable, and always ready to share techniques, river insight, or just a good story.
In addition to guiding, Jake is known for his appearance on Season 11 of Alone, the popular survival series on the History Channel, where he lived entirely off the land in one of the harshest environments on earth. A seasoned outdoorsman, he’s also a traditional bowhunter, wilderness survival instructor, horseman, and falconer. His deep connection to the wild translates into every guide trip—offering more than just fishing expertise, but a full immersion into the natural world.
Jake specializes in both walk-and-wade trips and drift boat days, tailoring each outing to your skill level and goals. Whether you’re chasing rising fish on the Ranch or exploring remote stretches of the Fork, Jake works hard to create an unforgettable day on the water. If you’re looking for a personalized, dialed-in fly fishing experience on the Henry’s Fork, request Jake Messinger when you book your trip with TroutHunter.
